We are incredibly lucky to have an offer from Professor David Hawksworth CBE to lead a ‘fungal excursion’ (he knows this makes me smile every time I say or write it!) into Teazle Wood. Numbers are limited, and our heritage Teazle tours booked up straight away, so do book early to avoid disappointment.
Sunday 13 October, 2013, 11.00 – 13.00 hrs
Fungi in Teazle Wood (Leatherhead Common, Surrey): An introduction to the
mushrooms and other fungi (and lichens) appearing in the wood this season, and their natural history, by Professor David Hawksworth CBE. A walk through the woods, recently purchased by the Friends of Teazle Wood to save it from development, followed by a display of finds and lunchtime refreshments.
Meet at the Fire and Iron Gallery, Oxshott Road, Leatherhead KT22 0EN (ample
free parking). Suggested donation of £10 per adult to Teazle Wood (interested children over 10 who would inspired by an academic insight are welcome free of charge, but must still be booked in and must be accompanied and supervised by a booked adult). Numbers limited, so please book by phone on 01372
386453 or by e-mail to email@example.com
Terrific day in Teazle Wood, with two workshops run to raise funds to finish paying for the purchase of the woodland. Plant folklore expert Roy Vickery showed us the many weird and wonderful uses of our native plants, and professional photographer David Spink taught his students how to get off AUTO. A big thank you to both men for their time and expertise. All these photos were taken by Auriel Glanville, ‘Friend of Teazle Wood’ – thanks, Auriel!
One of our Friends of Teazle Wood, George Gunn, has grown six amazing tubs of bright red tulips. Ready to go, with plenty of buds still to bloom. £10 each, ALL proceeds to the purchase of Teazle Wood. Call me (Lucy) 01372 386453 to reserve, and collect from Fire and Iron Gallery. Three are already blooming, three are looking good to start flowering shortly… Most are in the nice square pots, two are in black flower pots. Gorgeous – thanks, George!!
