Lucy and I spent a couple of hours clearing out rubbish in the stream which runs along the boundary with the back of Tesco. The litter problem is unfortunately still with us, about 80% of what we picked is new unused plastic bags used for their home deliveries. We also found ice that had been dumped from the freezer boxes, it is illegal to dump anything into water courses. We also know that when the road is swept instead of putting the rubbish into bags it is often tipped over the low wall into the stream. We have started a project to tackle the issue, see the TWEEP tab for more information.
- plastic bags dumped over wall
- Dumped ice
- Tesco rubbish by their back door
- Rubbish we pulled out from stream
- Yet more rubbish
Well done to you all, yet again you are clearing up from Tesco, the biggest culprit. I feel the time has come to take some form of legal action against Tesco, do you have any friends of T W who might be able to help or advise. Perhaps the Lower Mole people might be able to help
Thank you for your support. We are working on a new strategy, considering an open letter or petition calling for action. Legal action can be expensive and used only for a last resort. As they are neighbours to the wood we would prefer that they came on board, the staff would benefit and it would send a great message to their customers that they do care about the environment. We just need to get that message through!
